About
Gillian Lazanik creates landscapes that shift with perspective—what appears abstract up close transforms into something familiar from a distance. Her work mirrors nature’s duality: chaotic and unpredictable in the details, yet effortlessly organized when seen as a whole.
Drawing on fractal patterns and the unseen forces that shape our world, Gillian’s process is as much about discovery as it is about creation. She allows natural mediums like tea leaves, preserved herbs, and rubber coatings to find their way across the canvas, letting nature’s logic take over. Tiny, scattered elements come together to form vast landscapes—reminding us that everything, from forests to human existence, is built from countless small, interdependent parts.
Like nature itself, her paintings are ever-changing. They reveal something new each time you look at them—not because they are dense with detail, but because of their layered simplicity. Minimal and modern, yet rich with texture, they invite quiet contemplation. Their surfaces shift with the light, ensuring that no two encounters are ever quite the same.
With a background in interior design, Gillian understands how composition shapes experience. Whether in a space or on a canvas, her work brings a sense of connection—reminding us that we are part of something much larger than ourselves.
Her work is represented by Teichert Gallery and Art 1274 Hollis Gallery in Halifax and will be featured in a solo exhibition at The Craig Gallery from February 24 to March 30, 2025.
"I don’t set out to recreate landscapes—I let them emerge. My process is a collaboration with nature, where the smallest fragments build into something much larger. Just like in life, it’s the combination of all the parts that creates the bigger picture.”
